Project Outline


  • How you will introduce your problem
    • The problem will be presented the student in a video commercial via youtube.com- it will present the following scenario-
Fairfield Middle School is considering opening a snack store to run before and after school. The school needs help to determine the type of soft drinks, chips, candy, and cookies to sale to the students and staff.

  • Possible activities students need to complete to be able to do their project
    • Student will first create a wikispace page to brainstorm and layout their strategy for solving the problem.
    • The students will create a spreadsheet via Google docs. to collaborate on data collection.
    • The students will survey at least 50 students and teachers using a Google survey or a similar website for collecting data.

  • Possible projects to demonstrate the collaborative group’s final product
    • The students will present their by creating a PowerPoint or video to display their results.
      • The students must present the measure of central tendency for their data collection and include visual display by creating a bar graph, histogram, and circle graph.

  1. Introduces the lesson on Statistics
  2. Describes the role of a statistician
  3. Reviews vocabulary for the unit
  4. Problem/project explained in brief
  5. Groups/teams revealed
  6. Student's homework assignment is to collect data which needs to be completed before they are able to work on lesson C

Lesson Plan B
  1. Students get a better understanding on Central tendency and finding when to use each measure
  2. students learn more about the calculations of Mean, Median, and Mode.

Lesson Plan C
  1. Students begin to work as a team on their projects
  2. Teacher shows the student how to use the formulas on a spreadsheet
  3. Final project is due at the end of class
  4. Peer Review
